Tanroagan, simply translated as Shell (Tan) Scallop (Roagan) from Manx Gaelic.
The Mowat family, Laura, Robin and Joan are the present owners of Tanroagan, taking over the reins from local chef and fisherman Butch Buttery in April 2006. The following day the restaurant hosted TV celebrities, the Hairy Bikers and has gone on to welcome many visiting celebrities over the years with the Island being a popular destination for film and tv show producers. The real stars though are our loyal customers and seafood fans. Our dining room is not fine dining. You will not find stiff table clothes, black tie waiters or silver service. Our dining room is small and the restaurant makes extraordinary use of the victoria terrace building we are in. What you will find is a warm welcome from friendly people looking forward to sharing with you our passion and pride for Island food and drink.
Tanroagan takes great pride in its status as a culinary ambassador for Manx Seafood and locally sourced produce showcasing amazing produce such as Queenie Scallops, Crab and Lobster across our menus and blackboard specials. Since opening in 2006, the island has gone through a food revolution with so many fantastic artisan producers now offering a quality choice of local cheeses, cured meats, smoked fish, herbs and vegetables alongside a flourishing industry for local beers, gins and spirits.
On behalf of the Mowat family and staff we hope you enjoy your visit to Tanroagan restaurant.
